The ultra-modern Civic Centre was commissioned in October 2021 as pledged by Governor Fayemi. The facility was named after Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the late Premier of the Western Region, honouring his contributions to regional development and democratic governance. Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo attended the Ekiti Summit where the Civic Centre was commissioned, lauding Fayemi's development initiatives. The Civic Centre is a multi-purpose facility designed to host state functions and executive meetings, Conferences and summits, Cultural events and performances and Exhibitions and trade fairs.

Construction of the Civic Centre was one of the legacy projects Fayemi prioritized, alongside the new Ado-Iyin dual carriageway, the airport, and the secretariat rehabilitation. The project was delivered within the timeline Fayemi had announced at the Udiroko Festival in August 2021.
